The song of our world gives hope———
We—— place our trust in him——-
Our—- God— his— one and only might——
Brings us life and peace———
He is the one and only mi——ghty——
Bringer of joy and love——-
His—- flame is our holy holy grail
Our trust and our truth——
He is the one who lives beyond—— us——
And our joyful song——-
Is all we cherish——
In his ho—-ly love——-
The song of our world gives hope——-
We——- place our trust in him——
E——ru—- al—mighty God
Our torch—— and—— truth——
This one was fun to work on for me because I have a fairly good background in singing church music, and I thought it would fit perfectly as a song for Eru. Tolkien parrots Christianity in the beginning of his book, so I thought that a very Catholic-style church hymn would be appropriate for Eru and his song’s harmonious style. I was honestly very tempted to write out a sheet music arrangement to accompany this (those dashes are actually reminders to me for some longer-held notes) but I was short on free time while making this so maybe I can finish it another time. I placed a couple of references to the song and Flame Imperishable in here, but this is essentially just a Christian hymn that you would hear in churches that play them.

For Melkor’s song I wanted to capture that idea of a bad SoundCloud rapper, playing into the stereotype that rap is a crass style of song (despite not holding these values myself, I does push the message a bit) and I accentuated this by using a little foul language. Oftentimes these are people who believe they are so much better than everybody else, when what they’re doing is nails on a chalkboard at its best, so I put a horrible beat behind lyrics that intentionally screw up rhymes and make jar you every time you try to read it with rhyme scheme. The ending I just made as narcissistic remarks that would slide in while you let the beat finish, but it also serves as something that makes the the song feel lazy and like it believes it’s better than itself. Overall, this is a terrible song over a terrible beat that I’m sure Melkor thinks is musical genius (and believe me, this is nearly impossible to rap to the beat its with in a way that sounds even remotely pleasant).
